Queensland
The Queensland Government has removed the previous aspirational target of 50 per cent of new vehicle sales being EVs by 2030 and has not announced a replacement target. In December 2025, it also concluded grant programs supporting private investment in EV charging infrastructure.
NSW
NSW continues to progress the introduction of a road user charge for electric vehicles from July 2027. This is occurring alongside federal work on a potential national approach. The coexistence of state and possible national charging models presents a risk of policy fragmentation. The FCAI will continue to monitor developments.
Elections
South Australians will go to the polls on 21 March 2026, with the current Government expected to be returned. Victoria will hold its election on 28 November 2026. While the next NSW election is scheduled for March 2027, the forthcoming budget cycle is likely to be framed by pre-election positioning.
