The Queensland Government’s vehicle fleet operation, QFLEET, has revised its strategy regarding the pathway to reducing emissions from its fleet of around 11,000 vehicles.
The revised strategy has QFLEET moving away from a focus on battery electric vehicles and now includes other low emission technologies such as hybrids and plug-in hybrid. This strategy focuses on reducing total fleet emissions while recognising the need for operational flexibility across Queensland’s decentralised public service. Thee Queensland strategy acknowledges key constraints to the electric vehicle transition: the limited availability of charging infrastructure and vehicle choice in some market segments.
The FCAI will be contributing to several reviews that are currently underway across the country. These include reviews by the Queensland and South Australian Governments into their waste management strategies.
The NSW Department of Fair Trading is continuing its consultation into the Motor Dealers and Repairers Regulation 2025 regarding appropriate training and recognition of EV motor technicians.
The Victorian Government has commenced a Parliamentary inquiry regarding Electricity Supply for Electric Vehicles. Although this inquiry will not report until March 2026, it will include a review of public recharging infrastructure, bi-directional charging capability and battery second life as household or community batteries.
