The House of Representatives standing committee on industry, innovation and science is inquiring on the current state of the Australian tyre industry, and any challenges and opportunities for the industry within the context of a circular economy.
This inquiry will consider the role of commercially viable product stewardship schemes and whether these should be made mandatory.
FCAI intends to respond to this inquiry, highlighting the importance to differentiate end-of-life tyres from light vehicles and those from the agriculture and mining industries (respectively collected at 97 per cent versus 13 per cent), and advocating for targeted government interventions that enables and supports market-based responses.
Submissions are due by 23 January 2026.
This matter will be discussed with the FCAI End-of-Life Vehicle working group that looks after all circular economy and waste reduction matters that impact or relate to the automotive industry. Please contact our Director Emerging Technologies Richard Delplace should you not yet have a nominated representative for this working group.
