The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries has welcomed investment from the Federal and Victorian governments of more than $10 million for new motorcycle safety upgrades in Victoria.
FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said the projects would be an important step in enhancing safety for motorcyclists.
“Motorcycle riders deserve a network that supports their mobility and recognises the benefit of safe roads. This announcement is a practical investment in targeted upgrades that has the potential to make a measurable difference,” Mr Weber said.
“Too many riders are suffering injury or worse on Victorian roads. Evidence shows that well-designed infrastructure, including motorcyclist-friendly barriers and safer intersections, can significantly reduce harm. We welcome this strong cooperation between governments to address the issue.
“Safer roads will give more people the confidence to consider motorcycling as a lower-cost, low-emissions transport alternative.”
The Motorcycle Safety Infrastructure Program will deliver eight projects in Gippsland and north-eastern Victoria, designed to reduce the likelihood and severity of motorcycle crashes through upgraded barrier treatments, improved signage and intersection works.
The FCAI is the peak industry organisation representing manufacturers and importers of motorcycles, scooters and off-highway vehicles.
