The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries has welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement of a further $5.9 million investment in electric vehicle charging across regional communities.
FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said the investment would make a meaningful difference for EV owners and regional economies.
“Expanding charging options outside metropolitan areas is essential for consumer confidence. This investment helps address one of the key barriers to EV uptake by giving motorists greater certainty that they can travel long distances with ease,” Mr Weber said.
“Drivers want to know that they can visit regional towns, support local businesses and enjoy the best of NSW without worrying about where they will recharge.”
The program will deliver 159 new chargers at 48 locations, supported by $3.2 million in private co-investment. Chargers will be placed along major touring routes and in town centres, rest areas and tourism destinations across the state.
“Manufacturers are bringing an increasing range of low and zero-emission vehicles to the Australian market. Continued expansion of the charging network will help ensure these vehicles can be used confidently in all parts of the country.”
FCAI members now offer Australian motorists more than 100 battery electric vehicle (BEV) models and more than 50 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.
