Motor Vehicle Industry Welcomes Appointment of Industry Advocate

The appointment of William Angove as the Automotive Supplier Advocate was welcomed by the industry’s peak body, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI). Mr Angove was appointed to this newly-created position by the Prime Minister and the Minister for Industry and Innovation as part of the Australian Government’s Automotive New Markets Initiative.

The appointment recognises not only the importance of maintaining a successful domestic automotive industry but also Mr Angove’s considerable experience in the sector.

“Australia’s automotive innovation is world-class, demonstrated by each of the local manufacturers locating a global design centre here. Increased export activity for local vehicle and component manufacturers is critical to our sector. Therefore creation of the Automotive Supplier Advocate will benefit all Australian motor vehicle and related component manufacturers in strengthening and broadening their access to export markets,” FCAI’s Chief Executive Tony Weber said.

“The industry particularly welcomes the opportunity to leverage off the substantial expertise that Mr Angove will bring to this role.

“Mr Angove’s assistance will ensure that the industry can focus on long-term strategies that build exports to Asian and other markets and make significant investment decisions with certainty,” Mr Weber said.

FCAI’s VFACTS vehicle sales data show that government purchases of locally manufactured vehicles has declined. Mr Weber noted that “the added focus of the Automotive Supplier Advocate to explore opportunities to increase the number of Australian-made vehicles in both government and private fleets is also welcomed by the industry.”
