The growth in sales of light cars continued in February against the background
of a general softening in the Australian motor vehicle market.
Sales of the smallest passenger cars boomed in January as the Australian motor
vehicle market continued on its record-setting way.
For the first time in three decades Australian motorcycle sales have exceeded 100,000 in a year.
According to figures released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), motorcycle sales achieved 102,142 in 2005 - an increase of 14.3 per cent compared to the 89,374 sales in 2004.
Australians bought more cars and trucks in 2005 than ever before to set an all-time
motor vehicle sales record of 988,269, according to figures released today by
the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
It was the fourth successive year of market growth.
Another record month of small and light car sales has all but ensured that the
Australian motor vehicle market is heading for its fourth straight annual sales
record.

Australian motor vehicle sales dropped slightly in October, interrupting a run
of record monthly results that have pushed the market to new heights this year.
The booming popularity of scooters has put the Australian motorcycle industry
on track for a big increase in annual sales in 2005.
The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries has offered its support
for the WorkChoices package announced by the Federal Government
yesterday.

available about the proposed reforms" said FCAI Chief Executive, Peter
