Motor vehicle sales in Australia ended the first quarter 3.3 per cent up on the same period in the all-time record year of 2007. FCAI Chief Executive, Andrew McKellar (pictured) said the market was yet to see any definitive effect on sales fro mthe recent interest rate rises.
The peak body representing the Australian automotive industry, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), has welcomed the release of a discussion paper from the Australian Government's Review of the Automotive Industry.

National Average Carbon Emissions (NACE) for all new light vehicles sold in Australia for 2007 was 226.1 g CO2/km. This continues the decline in carbon emissions of new vehicles, placing the industry well on track to achieve its target of an average 222 g CO2/km by 2010.
FCAI Chief Executive Mr Andrew McKellar: "The February sales result shows that underlying demand from private buyers and business remains very robust."
Sales in both January and February have set records for those months, building on a record annual total of more than one million new cars in 2007.
