The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) is the peak body for the automotive industry in Australia. FCAI represents to government the interests of importers of cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles. It aims to provide certainty for the industry, promote innovation, foster competitiveness, and ensure industry achievements are recognised.
FCAI is seeking a dynamic self-starter, capable of influencing policy direction at the highest level, to join its senior leadership team as its Director, State & Territory Advocacy and Communications. Reporting directly to and working closely with the Chief Executive, this position contributes recognised expertise in the important areas of government relations and policy influencing with a specific focus on Australian State and Territory Governments. The Director will provide advice to the FCAI Board, support key industry committees focused on government policy impacts in a range of areas critical to the automotive industry, and have oversight of FCAI’s strategic communication activity.
Applicants will have the capacity to work autonomously. A comprehensive understanding of the public policy process and the contribution that peak industry bodies make to this is critical. A track record of building productive relationships and collaborative networks at a political level and with a broad range of private sector and government stakeholders is a fundamental requirement.
High order communication, negotiation and strategic thinking abilities are expected and knowledge of State and Territory Government domestic policy issues and strategic corporate communication will be advantageous.
Qualifications in economics, commerce, politics, public policy, business studies or law are desirable.
A substantial remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
