Eight million Australian vehicles checked for deadly Takata airbags

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) today revealed the industry website,, has enabled more than eight million Australians to check whether their vehicle is fitted with a faulty Takata airbag that can seriously injure or kill vehicle occupants.

This figure represents nearly half of the 17.8 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles registered on Australian roads today.  From these vehicles checks, almost 1.3 million vehicles have been identified as carrying the faulty airbags.

According to Tony Weber, chief executive of the FCAI, the website traffic is a strong result.
